Before last week's detour we were viewing a set of Panama Canal Graphics
Branch 35mm slides of Aerial Canal Zone that were used by Mr. Laverty's
presentation at the 1993 Panama Canal Reunion. Well I have found
another box of 35mm slides that were sent to me with a legend sheet
titled Panama Canal V. I. P. Slides
and dated 7-12-69. This set of slides are really great slides
produced by the Panama Canal Graphics Branch as well. There are a
bunch of aerials and some ground shots like the one above. I
really, really love this photo as it brings back so many memories
sitting on top of Contractor's Hill in the evening and night.
Contractor's Hill was a big hang out for us young and adventurous people
that liked Contractor's Hill as a party spot and a great place to watch
the submarine races. What a perfect photo! A bit out of
focus because of being shot with a time exposure which also caused the
streaks of light from vessels in the cut. One very nice thing is
the site of the old Summit radio antenna field that went away when
modern technology took over.
I will post the rest of the
slides in the next few weeks to come.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL OF
YOU. We certainly have a lot to be thankful for as we all had
paradise for a home ...the Canal Zone.
