Photo of the Week
January 19, 2014

I was going through my Edward Charles Schultz collection the other day and though I would start posing some of that collection again.  This photo got my attention when I saw what these men were unloading out of this box car. Dupont Dynamite!! As you can see on the left of the photo Schultz or someone wrote "HANDLEING EXPLOSIVES BY THE 100 TONS" with the word Handling being spelled wrong.  The dynamite is just stacked up all over the place awaiting the laborers to haul it off.  Note the close proximity of the locomotive pulling this box car.  I wonder if the firebox in the locomotive's cab is far enough away from this load.  Only one hot spark!  Where is the Safety Officer?

Great photo of the Canal Construction Days.
