Photo of the Week
February 5, 2012

Continuing with the same collection of old photos taken in Gatun during the construction days and featuring people at work and play.

This week's photo is photo titled "Locomotive 311 & Dick Cal VII/30.". Locomotive photos are always a favorite. As the photo title states, this is Baldwin Locomotive I.C.C. Class 301 - 340 that cost $11,,490 each and built in 1907. It looks almost like Ole 299, but isn't.  I can't tell if this is actually taken down in the Culebra Cut, but since most of the other photos in the collection are taken in the Gatun area, I believe it was taken down in the excavated cut that would eventually be the Gatun Locks.

Another great photo from this collection.

More to come next week...
