Photo of the Week
October 30, 2011

Continuing with the new personal collection from Dick White's uncle's collection.  This photo was taken of a newly constructed Balboa Housing along the El Prado.  The landscape project has yet to begin as seen with the rough grounds in the foreground and along the future El Prado median. The writing on the back of the photo states:

"View of from Balboa "Y" family concrete quarters.  $750,000 Administration Bldg in background.  Street yet unimproved.  Balboa, C.Z. Jan. 3, 1915"

The photo below shows a closer view of the newly constructed Administration Building.  The stairs are now under construction and fill at the foot of the hill has yet to be added.  Railroad tracks are seen in the foreground that were there as part of the construction project.  The stacks of railroad ties indicates that the rail lines used are being removed.  Lots of landscaping to be done. The writing on the back of the photo states:

"The $750,000 Administration Bldg. - Balboa, C.Z. - As seen from the school Bldg. Dec. 19, 1914 - The approach is under construction - The reinforced concrete flag pole cost $1,500.

Wonderful photos of the very early days of Balboa.  More photos from this set to come in the week's to come.
