Photo of the Week
September 13,  2009

This photo is a good one!  I laughed so hard when I saw it.  I was entrusted with a a wonderful old photo collection to scan this past weekend and found this photo among them.  Here is a vintage snap shot taken of some store fronts in Colon.  Judging from the rest of the photos in the collection, I would say this was the late 1920's to early 1930's time frame.

Now, the best part of this photo is the corner store.  The sign reads, "Panamanian Commissary"!  Don't you just love it?!  This store owner evidently took on the commissary name from the Canal Zone Commissaries to bring in customers.  I have never seen the word commissary used in any Panama food store.

Another wonderful capture in time preserving a memory that would have been certainly lost if not for this photo.
