I was recently contacted by a CZ Images visitor by the name of Richard
Crowe. Richard is the descendent of a 1st Lt Fred A. Ramsey who
served during the construction days in the Canal Zone. Lt. Ramsey
is shown in a famous photograph at the head of his formation during
Roosevelt's visit to the diggings to boost moral and see the progress
being made. Fred's wife made a photo album in 1907 time frame
and this photo is from that album. Richard sent me a few of the
photos as scanned images for my review. This particular photo
which I have chosen for this week's photo is a super one. This is
a photo of a Col Cook and Lt. Fred Ramsey at La Boca. The sign on
the building reads, "Canal Zone Post Office", hence this was
the La Boca Post Office during this time frame. The most EXCITING
thing about this photo is the old Ladder Dredge in the back
ground. It must be tied up to the dock ... WOW!! This is a
fantastic capture of a great old dredge which looks in pretty good shape
since it is discarded French equipment.
Richard is in the
process of scanning more great photos from this album which I will post
as they become available. Thank you Richard for sharing this and
other great historical captures in time.
