Not to go too crazy on the subject of the Mule Crane, but while browsing through photos taken on our January trip to Panama, I came across this great shot. This is the reason that the Mule Cranes were created. Note the incline this Mule Crane is going down on. Other standard railroad cranes could never do this maneuver in order to travel from level to level. The upsweeps on each end of the Mule Crane will allow it to take these steep inclines.
