Photo of the Week
May 6, 2007

This week's photo is an interesting one.  I just picked up this old colorized post card at auction. I am not sure what to make of it, but think it is very disrespectful to the dead, but it was and believe still is common practice in Panama to dig up graves if the family doesn't pay the grave site rent.  This is evidently a very early post card, probably taken during the construction days. I know that they relocated graves from Mt. Hope to Corozal in more modern times due to the treaty, but this photo was taken much earlier.  The man shown in the photo has an interesting uniform on.  Not sure what it is, but it looks like a uniform.  I thought my visitors would be interested in this practice of the past.
