Photo of the Week

Two super photos from days gone by for this week's photos of the week. I borrowed these photos from a friend who found the photos in his late dad's estate. These two black and white photos are taken inside the Balboa High School wood shop. The year is unknown. The interesting thing about these photos is that the students are making small doll beds out of old dynamite boxes which were probably donated by Dredging Division. The photo above shows students assembling the bed and below the students are using a plane to get the right thickness with the old dynamite box boards. In the photo above, you can see one of the dynamite boxes under the second work bench. The box label reads "Atlas Powder Co., Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A. Explosives - Dangerous I.C.C. - 14" It must have been interesting working with these boxes as Nitro Glycerin would still be present in the wood and must have given these students, not to mention the child that got one of these doll beds, a royal headache. Great old photos!! Does anyone recognize the students in these photos or any information about what is going on? Photos from the John Gough collection.
Thanks John. |
