Photo of the Week
August 6, 2006

Here is a classic 1920's vintage photo I came across recently.  It is the Empress of Scotland (26,313 grt, 666 ft. long), originally the Empress of Japan for Canadian Pacific's Vancouver-Yokohama service, was delivered in 1930. A troop transport during WW2, she was transferred to the North Atlantic after the war to become the Empress of Scotland. She was sold to the Hamburg-Atlantic Line in 1958 and rebuilt as the Hanseatic.  Note the little biplane flying towards the ship.  This photo was taken in the Bas Obispo reach.  This hills you see in this photo have since been taken down with the years of cut widening.
