Photo of the Week

This week's photo is a scanned image of an old colorized post card. This card caught my eye as the subject matter is very unique. The caption on the back of this post card reads: "A Cake Vendor, Panama City - The common method among the West Indians is to carry their baskets and bundles on their heads. Cakes and fruits are carried around the streets in the same manner. such sights of native life is a source of great interest to strangers." This dome shaped contraption must have been good keeping the flies and bees from swarming the cakes. Note the price list shown under the dome. The other woman watching the cake vendor doesn't look real happy for some reason. What a classic old post card capturing a time
long past into the history of
Panama. |
