In continuing with my past photo of the
week, here is part two of "The New York Yankees at Balboa
Stadium" .
The above photo is a really great photo of Joe
DiMaggio on that same day in 1946 at Balboa Stadium. This photo
was taken by Bill Fall's parents who were at the event. The old
photo has a nice sepia tint that adds to it.
Below is a flyer, poster, or program that was
printed for this same event. This was also sent in by Bill
Fall. Thanks for sending in these great additions to this 1946
event.
Comments from Louis Barbier:
"When the New York Yankees visited the Canal Zone in 1946; my Dad
took my brother and I to see Joe DiMaggio in action. I was a
little squirt then in short pants and suspenders. That afternoon,
as I recall, he hit four over the center field fence. One of the
balls the kids are still looking for and another broke a windowpane on
the upper floor of BHS. Until the Panama Canal Company fixed
the pane, we little kids would point at it to our friends and say,
"Joe DiMaggio hit a homer right through the window!"
Wow, that really takes me back..."
Thanks for your contributions Bill and
Louis...
Note: I was without
power last Sunday 8/28 and didn't get to post a photo of the
week.
