Summit_Radio_Field.JPG (127634 bytes)

Picture's caption reads: Ore Carrier Sigvik in Gaillard Cut where Empire Reach widening project is in progress.  October 24, 1961.

I found this picture while going through some things.  I think it rather interesting as it shows the old Summit Radio Station in it's glory.  You can also see the water fall that I have pictures of on CZ Images and what it looked like in 1982 (click) and what it looks like today (click).   I would love to have a aerial shot like this of what the cut looks like today for comparison.  The cut is much wider today because of the many years of cut widening projects like the project on-going here in this photo.  The Dipper Dredge Cascadas  is shown digging.  I have been told that the tug towing the Sigvik was the Dredging Division tug Taboga.  Notice that back then the tug used a towing line on the ship through the cut, not made up on the stern like they do now.  (Tug info provided by Richard Dillon - Thanks).
