| This is a picture of Camp Otis which was located near the town of Empire during the American construction era. Empire was one of the main towns along the bank of the Culebra Cut during the digging. This photo has 3rd Batt. written on it and was probably a Marine unit. There was another Marine camp and headquarters just north of here called Camp Elliott. A military force was maintained in the Canal Zone ever since the American occupancy started. Note the great tropical style houses with the large screened in porches.
