Photo of the Week
October 21, 2001

This post card photo is titled, "President Kennedy Avenue - boundary between Ancon, Canal Zone and Republic of Panama".  More popularly known as 4th of July Avenue, this busy street was called "the limits".  Kind of like the Berlin Wall!  It was taboo for Panamanians to venture into the Canal Zone unless you had bonified business there.  On another note, those living in the Zone could cross into Panama City anytime, day or night for shopping, eating out and visiting the nearby bars.  One favorite store was Gran Morrison's just across the street at this intersection.  The Ancon Elementary School Play shelter is seen in the photo on the corner.  In the approaching traffic, you can see one of the Canal Zone's finest "Black and White" police car.

Another blast from the past from our old home!
