Photo of the Week
Continuing with the Alfred G. Bedell collection. I love this photo as it is not a staged photo as the past ones have. This is a good candid shot of the street that goes up the hill in Gatun. The large buillding with all the stairs is the Office of the District Quartermaster, Quartermaster's Department. The sign on the building reads the same. This is the same street that goes up by the Y.M.C.A. This area would probably been the center of town and all activities. The boy was on the move when Alfred snapped the photo as he is blurred. Great photo in the life and times back in Gatun during the construction days. Looking closer to the group of men and women, this group is the same as the ones sitting in front of the Y.M.C.A that I posted on November 8, 2020. What a grand part of the story. Here the group is heading up the road to the Y and pose for that group on the stairs photo. More next week.
