Photo of the Week
I came across this old photo this week and found it worthy of posting. The scene is the SS Ancon entering Pedro Miguel Locks the Panama Canal's official first transit. I have seen many photos of the SS Ancon taken on this day, but haven't seen this one. There is so much to be seen in this photo with the old town of Pedro Miguel in the distance and then shacks and debris left from the construction of the locks and not cleaned up yet. Many spectators there to watch as the SS Ancon transits. This is one of the first photos of the operational Canal. Long live our Canal Zone history.
