Photo of the Week
I finally found a good photo of the Gorgas Hospital Obstetrical Building in Ancon. This is the building that I and many other Baby Boomer were born. In the mid 1970s, I was visiting a friend in the hospital and wanted something to eat and drink. I was told by a hospital employee that there was a break room in the building across the street. I was told to take the overpass bridge connecting the two buildings second floors. I followed the directions and found the break room. The were soda and snack vending machines, seating of tables, chairs and sofas. There was a room off to the side that had a pool table. I can't remember if there were more than one pool tables. There was an old West Indian women hospital worker in the room and I started talking with her. I told her that I was born in Gorgas Hospital and she asked me when and I told her. She told me that I wasn't only born in Gorgas, but I was born in that room where the pool table was. That was the old delivery room. My brother, my wife were all born in this building. I have often wanted to take a photo of this building, and never did. I have no idea what this building is being used for today, but am glad I found this photo. Happy Thanksgiving everyone. |
