Photo of the Week
This week we have two more great photos that were taken by the PCC photographer. These photos are classics showing the Panama Railroads brand new 1,000-horsepower, 95 ton diesel-electric locomotives that were purchase the same year as these photos were taken. 1940. Five of these locomotives were built by the Locomotive Division of General Electric Erie Works (Erie County, Pennsylvania) for the Panama Canal Railroad Company. They were used as switch engines moving rolling stock around in the rail yards. I have heard they were not capable of towing long passenger nor freight trains. Further research is needed. I couldn't find much about these type of locomotive only these five built for the Panama Railroad. This leads me to believe these were the only locomotives of this type built by GE.
