Last week we learned a little bit
about the Panama Canal Suction Dredge Mindi and it's demise in
the depths of the Pacific Ocean, now this week we meet another
Ellicott Dredge built for and purchased by the Panama Canal.
This is the Las Cruces which preceded the Dredge Mindi was
not steam powered but diesel electric. The both look somewhat alike
but the Las Cruces has a different exhaust stack. The
captions explain when and where these photos were taken. It is
very evident that the Las Cruces made it to it's destination
(bottom photo) when sold unlike the many other dredges, cranes and
vessels that the Panama Canal sold over the years.
