Photo of the Week
March 24, 2019
This week's photos are two great captures of a new Balboa Passenger Train Station. All looks nice and clean but the parts that the soot from locomotives have tarnished. There are the nice shiny polished brass railing by the ticket window and new wooden benches which were probably the same ones we all remember at the station. This station was the pride and joy of the Canal Zone stations as it represented the capital of the Canal Zone....Balboa. The photo below is the station at another angle which allows you to see the action taking place on the other side of the station. At the time these photos were taken, Balboa was still under construction and the tracks were still running towards the Prado and Flats area. Remember, rolling stock was still the best mode for hauling and removing construction supplies and equipment. There are a bunch of dirt cars which were probably bringing in fill or hauling excess dirt away. Long live our Canal Zone memories.
