Photo of the Week

You are probably wondering why photos of Miraflores Locks this week, but the subject matter is the old icon bridge that we all knew that crosses over the locks. Well this past week I heard news that the bridge is about to get demolished. I guess with the construction of the new Cocoli Locks, the old bridge is not needed anymore. The photo above is from 1953 that shows the bridge in the closed position and a view of the old 3rd Locks excavation and Cocoli in the distance. The photo below was sent to me in 2006 by Alan Hawkings is also a great shot of the bridge closed for vehicle traffic.

I am sure that I will have more news and photos as the demolition comes. So sad to see yet another Canal Zone icon going away.
