Here is a very interesting piece that I recently
obtained. It was a lucky find!! I have never seen another one
like it. There are ten charms on the bracelet and five designs, two of
each. I believe it is made of copper. Although there are two of
each design, no two are exactly the same. This leads me to believe
that each one of these charms are hand made. The images seem to be
etched into a black enamel type material. It looks to me like this
wonderful bracelet was made in either the 1920s or early 1930's. The
Canal has water in it, the locks are in operation and the big best evidence
is the Ajax and Hercules at Paraiso. Dredging Division didn't move to
Gamboa until the later 30's.
From L-R - Top Row - Appears to be Pedro Miguel Locks, next is the Ajax and Hercules at Paraiso. Middle and Bottom Row - Gatun Locks
Another historical piece of
the great American era of the Panama Canal Zone. |
