A lonely Toro Point Lighthouse still keeps it's beacon lit after the departure of the American base of Fort Sherman. So many years of history has past since it's beginning. This land that you see in this photo has seen so much. The road used to be the railroad bed that hauled the tons of fill to make the breakwater. The many troops that worked so hard to make this land liveable. The palms in this photo seem to show the wear and tear of history on their trunks. Another chapter in the United States history in the Republic of Panama has come to an end. Photo from "Lighthouse Digest", February 1999. |
